The author dispells many common myths, or puts them in their proper perspective. More than anything he cautions against a range of temptations that might appeal to the novice. He provides many useful practical tips for induction, explaining the simplicity of the natural process.

short and enjoyable

For me it was a quick but good review of information I've already learned in formal training. Someone that hasn't taken classes would likely benefit from the ideas presented. The ideas are expressed simply and clearly. I was glad to see the author caution readers that there are dangers in leading the client or in giving suggestions. The book is short, to the point and ultimately directs the reader to his other products.

Besides a couple of ideas about spiritualism included in this book, which I don't share with the author, this is a very practical and serious guide. Straight to the point, with a final recap and some good, sensible suggestions. Worth reading.

A joy to read

This book deserves to be much more widely used. Ziman's prose is simply wonderful, where Kittel is unreadable, and Ashcroft & Mermin often dense. It's a bit quirky (how on earth did he find the epigrams for each chapter?) but that is what makes it lovable. Anyone who doubts his scientific soundness should check out his massive "Electrons & Phonons."
The main advantage of this book is that it emphasizes conceptual understanding over mathematical manipulation. That's also its weakness: Ziman often glosses over or just sketches what in other texts would be occasions for massive algebra. Perhaps if you are a true theorist type, you can fill in the blanks on your own. As an experimentalist, I feel like I need some other intro texts to make me feel like I can do *some* math in the field. On the other hand, I don't know of any textbook that makes me feel I could do the truly heavy lifting.

No doubt as good as the first edition

I used heavily the first edition of this book, and have not seen the second, but it is no doubt as good as the first, which was packed full of insights into the many rich phenomena that exists in solids. It has served, and will serve, future generations of students in the 21st century in their development of new ideas and technologies based on condensed matter physics.
Writers of physics texts should follow the strategy that this author does, in his statement that "a treatise expounds; a textbook explains". The emphasis of any book in physics should be in developing the reader's intuition; the mathematics sometimes takes hold and moves the reader away from the essential ideas. The author is one of the few who has not done this, and that is no doubt the reason for this book's popularity.

Wow a pleasure to read

There are few physics books that I can say I enjoy reading for fun (and I'm a student of physics) but I must admit that this book is excellent. It holds true not only to its reputation but to what the author's original intent was. It is thorough, enlightening, to the point and fun to read, the author's sense of humor not only aids in ease or reading but makes retention and elucidation all the more easy! This is an excellent graduate text on basic solid sate physics, even though it was published in 1975.

It covers all the bascis areas, from periodicty to lattice waves, phonons, semiconductors etc at an accessible level to the beginning graduate student. A must read.

Alpha Male Cop with Attitude

If domestic discipline is your thing, then try this book, the writing is great and the story is interesting

In truth I am conflicted about Her Keeper 1-4. Helen Karol is a great writer, and I thought I would enjoy the premise of the story, however once I delved into the series I struggled with the dynamic of Rick and Sara's relationship. Just too much domestic discipline for me :D

The author explores the emerging emotions cleverly weaving the story between each protagonists point of view told in first person accounts and unfolding present events and past histories with skill.

I am not generally keen on stories told in the first person, but Helen Karol's gift for writing made the words flow and I was quickly caught up in both Rick and Sara's perspectives.

I guess where the book failed me, is that I read kink to be turned on, and whilst I have no problem reading all flavours of BDSM and D/s (both M/F and M/M), I think my personal preferences must lie outside domestic discipline because it just didn't work for me.

I really did not appreciate Rick's endearment to Sara of 'little girl'. Her endearment for Rick of 'jackass' on the other hand seemed much more appropriate. I guess this sums up my struggle to enjoy the story, I found Rick to be too overbearing and frankly a bully. Admittedly one person's bully is another's alpha male and my views are clearly in a minority,

It hurts so good........

If was ever a person who needed a spanking its Prosecuting Attorney Sara Michaels. Strong willed, opinionated, button pushing, name calling bundle of woman wrapped up in a body that could make a man fall to his knees.

Well unless the man is Detective Rick Andrews. Sara and Rick have this love hate relationship, well actually their fighting has become the stuff of legends in Lake Andrews. The reason behind the feud goes back to their time in college when Rick humiliated Sara in front of a bunch of frat buddies by spanking her when she ran into his parked car with her bike.

The book reads like a broadway play. As each chapter unfolds the cast of characters keeps you on the edge of your seat, waiting for the curtain to rise. Ms. Karol has created characters that will keep you enthralled, entertained, and begging for more.

This is a book about a Dom who believes in the adage spare the rod spoil the woman. His firm belief is that a 24/7 D/s full discipline relationship is the only type of honest relationship for him. He has wanted to spank Sara's behind for a lot of years, to protect her from herself, to give her pleasure mixed with pain, and to teach her a lesson. Sara has hidden desires for Rick, and has dabbled in the BDSM kink but with little success. Enter Mister tall dark and dominant and you have a best seller on your hands.

Book 1 just wets your appetite, believe me I know. I had to go and get the other 3 parts, I couldn't let the story go.

Detective has met his match...come forward Madam Prosecutor

Her Keeper is spinoff of Intimate Knowledge by Helen Karol, the first in a serial. Luke Kincaid, former partner of Raisa Gordon, reappears as the best friend of Rick Andrews, the alpha male Detective of a small town in New Hampshire on Lake Andrews, named for his family who have live there more than two centuries. Sara Michaels is the town prosecutor, granddaughter of another town founding father and daughter of missionary parents, on a mission of her own going head to head with the town's leading company for the improprieties. Friends in common, careers intermingled, yet these two are at odds constantly because resentments, desires and fears run deep, eight years deep. These two literally collided in college and the rift and undercurrent has been strong between them ever since. This is the first part of the serial and I look forward to see where it goes. Will Sara let her resentment for Rick and public humiliation go? Will Rick give in and explore with Sara? Sara is reckless and this raises Rick's hackles and the alpha male emerges. The only question is, will it all blow up or blossom? This first installment in the serial proves to be some good reading, bound to be filled with twists, for sure.

Wow! What a difference!

After listening to a colleague promote this book time after time, I finally gave in and bought it, and am I sure glad I did! This book is so straight forward in its approach yet provides the information necessary to really improve and notice what companies are doing to keep your loyalty or those who are doing their best to just keep you satisfied. He goes through the process of helping you discover what you're doing right and what needs improvement. This book also points out the importance of the individual in business for promoting or hurting future sales. Being on the road frequently with business, his travel stories related to similar experiences I've had with airlines, restaurants, and hotels at numerous locations across the country. I recommend this book to anyone wanting to improve their customer loyalty skills and increase their referral business.

An engaging supernatural romp

This book is one of the best i've read in along time. The creature ideas are fantastic, the writing is excellent and Foster's genuine sense of wonderment bleeds from every page. Although there is one problem. Throughout the book are links to a website instead of pictures, a website that doesn't seem to work. Because of that you must picture the creatures instead of seeing images of them, which has its own kind of charm. All in all a thoroughly engaging romp.

the ultimate book

I have seen many books on medicinal chemistry, but this book is an outstanding publication. It covers all chemistry, pharmacology, history and approach to new drug design. It gives complete information required for a scientist.
This is the best book for medicinal chemistry.
